A Brief Intro To Store Design

After location, good store design coupled with an effective merchandising plan are the keys to a successful retail operation. An effective store layout will create an environment your customers will want to shop in. Effective merchandising techniques will introduce your customer to new products as well as encourage tie-in and stepped up sales. The more sales, especially impulse sales, the more profitable your store will be.

 Objectives of an effective store layout:

  • Guides traffic through the entire store ( There is a reason that the milk & bread are always located in the rear of food markets!)
  • Introduces new products & promotions
  • Leads the customer through higher profit margin departments
  • Builds volume through impulse and stepped up sales
  • Creates a comfortable shopping environment for the customer
  • Creates a unique store "brand" that will create "buzz" and build goodwill among the  customers in your community.

A store layout that encompasses all of the above points will lead to an increase in sales.  In future blogs I will discuss three major factors in developing your effective store layout.  Keep posted!
